Tretiak: The Legend (Signeret udgave)
Tretiak: The Legend is a very enlightening look into the hockey career of one of the greatest goaltenders the world has ever seen. It provides the backstory of Vladik Tretiak’s personal life and his relationships with his coaches, teammates and rivals.
This book was published in ’87, so Tretiak was writing from ‘Behind the Iron Curtain’. Canadian players are referred to as ‘professionals’- read ‘capitalists’- and Tretiak’s views clearly reflect the orthodox worldview of Soviet society expressed through the lens of sport. The system also limited his ability to speak truthfully about how he felt about his coach, the tyrannical Viktor Tikhonov, a person loathed by Tretiak and those who had played under Anatoly Tarasov.
